how can I let people know about a vintage 1959 Short Shaft Outboard Motor I have for sale that would be perfect for a vintage Hi Liner restoration? Is there a place to advert??
I do not want to post in the wrong area.

I have a 1956 13.5 hiliner I restored several years ago. I have all the paperwork that
came with the boat when new. It is one of my favorite boats! I am located in Laconia, N.H,
Glad I found others that like the Hiliners!

We have a 1959 Fleet 15’6″ in need of a lot of repairs. We are at this time interested in having it appraised. Any idea on who offers such appraisals? Sorry, folks, the boat has a lot of sentimental value for us and we are not interested in selling.

Just as an addendum to the previous posting, do any of you reading this site have an idea of than a 1959 Fleet 15’6″ might be worth? 75 Hp motor. Both boat and motor in need of lots of repairs. Last in the water 3 summers ago, and we spend most of our time trying to get it started.

    • Gayle,

Thanks for contacting our Hiliner site. It would be helpful if you could email me a few current pictures of the boat and motor. I’m not sure from your post if you are looking for an appraisal of the value in its current condition, or perhaps an estimate to restore it. In general the Hiliners built prior to 1965 are not considered an overly valuable boat. Almost of all of the surviving boats have more sentimental than retail value.

I have found a boat that has been in storage for 43 years . I think it is about 19ft with twine Johnson motors all in good condition.
If anyone can give me an approximate value .

    Hi Jim,
Picked up a 1957 sport star? 17’10” bought from original owners estate who supposedly bought it new in 57, but it has the fiberglass bottom. I thought they didn’t start that till 58, but wondering if they did some fiberglass bottoms in late 57? Is there a way to tell the year from hull#?

      Brian,

I don’t have any serial number records. But it was very common for owners to glass over the bottoms after purchasing them. Bunny Fernald, after Hiliner went out of business in the early 60’s set up a shop in Newbury where he did a lot of service for the local Hiliner fleet. This included glassing the bottoms of many older boats.

My guess is that the bottom was glassed over at some point a few years after the purchase.

I have a 1957 speedstar and am having a hard time finding parts for it; trim pieces; windshield; steering wheel; I have searched everywhere can anyone help?

Shane, There are not a lot of sources for the original items. I’ve had some luck doing national searches on craigslist using searchtempest.com . I even saw a steering wheel a few years ago. The windshields were made by Taylor, you can find some Taylor parts online. I had a windshield made locally. I also have some random trim pieces, right now they are in a snowed in shed. Come spring I’ll dig them out and see what I can find.

Occasionally on Craigslist you might find a boat that’s beyond saving, but has some useable trim pieces,.

I have a 14ft 1959 ? Fleet Star that I had planned to one day restore. I’ve owned it since 1970. I will sell to someone interested in a restoration project. I also have the Mercury 85hp 6 cylinder engine that was used to power the boat. This boat was pretty and fast!

Does anyone know if the 1957 speed star boats had any type of weight or person capacity tag n them? Or maybe any type of identifying tag for them.
